The Security Industry Authority will require those seeking any of their suite of security operative licenced qualifications, to hold a relevant first aid qualification prior to attending any security operative training. These changes will come in to force in April & October 2021.

The changes are:

  • on 1 April 2021, they will introduce updated qualifications for all sectors except close protection and vehicle immobilisation
  • from 1 April 2021, all students must have a first aid qualification before they can take the training required for a door supervisor or security guard licence
  • on 1 October 2021, they will introduce updated close protection qualifications
  • from 1 October 2021, you must have one of the new qualifications or take top-up training before you can apply for a door supervisor and security guard licence – this includes renewals.

Here at Remote First Aid – Training From Qualified Instructors we provide the now required Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification for those seeking to join a door supervisors or security guard course. Our EFAW training includes the the ability to control major bleeding by the use of tourniquets, haemostatic packing or haemostatic trauma dressings. Additionally our EFAW training incudes treating burns.

The UK Government agency the Security Industry Authority are making these changes to ensure public safety is increased, to meet new demands in the sector, to ensure current licence holders understand changes to the law and making use of new technology. We are able to assist those requiring the EFAW qualification, by means of offering the training in the accepted blended format. This is where students complete 3-hours of online learning and then join us for an additional 4-hours of face to face training and final assessments.

Those already looking to attend the SIA Close Protection Officer training course will have had to attend a specific higher level first aid qualification such as the Emergency Care for First Responders that we deliver to the industry.

Additionally those renewing their SIA licence regardless of level held will have to attend this training with the correct level of first aid qualification in place. We are able to offer advice and support to those in the security industry on what first aid qualification you require.
