Who is this qualification for?
This regulated lifelong qualification which focuses on more advanced first aid skills traditionally taught in first aid at work. Additional interventions and management of serious incidents with the expectation of longer term management of the casualty at the scene until definitive emergency aid arrives.
Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine – Descriptor
This qualification sits at Competency Level E on the PHEM Framework for those public services operating at this level. Non public service users may also sit at descriptors B to D as a benchmark for specific role requirements.
To be recognised at any level the practitioner must have all the
skills at that level. Practitioners may have additional skills from
higher levels but this does not mean that they are operating at
that level. The examples given relate to public service roles and
can be used to benchmark other medical threat and training
A First Aider (management of an unconscious, bleeding or arrested
patient). Certificated by a non-national organization.
B First Level responder, nationally certified and qualified to meet
statutory requirements within the work place eg EFAW, FAW.
Levels C to H will be operating within a framework of governance
C Nationally certificated pre-hospital responder (use of airway
adjuncts & oxygen) eg Community First Responder’s operating at pitch side at sports events etc.
D Nationally certificated non health care professional pre-hospital
provider caring for patients as a secondary role eg Police Officers in
Specialist Roles, Fire Service IEC, equivalent UKSAR trained
personnel, Enhanced Community First Responder
E Nationally certificated non health care professional pre-hospital
provider caring for patients as a primary role eg UKSAR, some
military personnel and specialist certificated police officers and
F Non-registered health care professional eg Ambulance Technician,
G Registered pre hospital care practitioner
H Advanced registered pre hospital care practitioner

How long will it take?
Students complete 13 hours and 16 minutes of interactive online learning covering the key knowledge subjects with theory tests online prior to joining us for the four-days to face to face immersive scenario based learning.
This is a life time qualification. We offer holders of this award a range of bespoke CPD to maintain skills in AED, Medical Gases administration, anaphylaxis and more.

- Recognition and initial care of haemorrhage
- Catastrophic Haemorrhage – including the use of tourniquets and haemostatics
- General Bone / Joint injuries
- Head injuries
- Spinal & Pelvic injuries
- Chest injuries
- Eye Injuries
- Heat Stroke & Dehydration
Medical Related Emergencies
- Heart attack/angina
- Asthma – including additional remote protocols
- Anaphylaxis – including additional remote protocols
This qualification is assessed by practical demonstrations, verbal questioning and a final online multiple-choice theory exam. Final outcome will be Pass or Fail
