Activity First Aid for the Sports Coach

Who is this qualification for?

This course of instruction meets the minimum of 12 hours of training over two days set by the British Association of Ski Instructors (BASI) and is therefore appropriate for those requiring a suitable first aid certificate as their licence to practice when leading skiing activities. It also meets both Snowsport England and Snowsport Scotland’s first aid standards for those requiring a suitable first aid certificate as their licence to operate, subject to their local operating conditions.

How long will it take?

To complete this qualification learners should expect to attend 14 hours typically over two long days.

Topics covered

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider acting in a outdoor leadership position, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries, fractures, head injuries, hypo & Hyperthermia, near drowning and anaphylaxis. 

Assessment method

This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and a multiple-choice theory test.
