Empowering Volunteers Across Grassroots Clubs, Community Organisations and Faith Groups

Across the UK, volunteers are the heart of community life. They lead cycling and running clubs, organise walking groups, coach junior tennis teams, teach martial arts, maintain community gardens, support church activities, and bring people together through shared interests and local initiatives. Remote First Aid and their nationwide training teams are available to support your community today!

While these groups are often run on passion, commitment, and goodwill, accidents and medical emergencies can happen anywhere. Having volunteers trained in first aid can make a significant difference when someone becomes injured or unwell. Mandatory first aid training is required for all including Scouts and Guide Groups to operate and other groups insurers usually require some form of first aid training. Volunteering and helping others – Be Ready

Remote First Aid’s Community First Aid Training has been designed specifically for non-commercial organisations, helping volunteers develop the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills needed to respond effectively in an emergency.

Supporting Community Groups That Make a Difference

The training is suitable for a wide range of volunteer-led organisations, including:

    • Cycling clubs
    • Running clubs
    • Walking and hiking groups
    • Tennis clubs
    • Judo and martial arts clubs
    • Grassroots sports teams
    • Church and faith groups
    • Community centres
    • Gardening clubs
    • Scouts and Guides
    • “Friends of” groups supporting parks and green spaces
    • Community garden projects
    • Charities and voluntary organisations
    • Youth and community groups

Whether volunteers are leading activities, organising events, supporting members, or maintaining public spaces, they often find themselves as the first person available to help when an incident occurs. Remote First Aid provides local training on a not for profit basis to the above groups.

    1. An example is a Cyclying group requires a 16 hour outdoor first aid training course. Remote First Aid can provide this training as ablended course 8 hours online and 8 hours face to face training for £500 + VAT for up to 12 club members.
    2. A Gardening club requires a CPR & AED training awarness course. This can be provided online at just £14 per person + VAT.

First Aid Skills for Real Community Settings

Community groups face a variety of situations that can result in illness or injury. A cyclist may fall during a club ride, a walker might suffer an ankle injury on a trail, a tennis player could collapse from heat exhaustion, or a visitor attending a church event may experience a medical emergency.

Remote First Aid’s Community First Aid Training provides practical skills including:

    • Emergency scene assessment
    • CPR and AED use
    • Managing unresponsive casualties
    • Treating wounds and bleeding
    • Dealing with fractures, sprains and strains
    • Recognising heart attacks and strokes
    • Managing asthma attacks and allergic reactions
    • Responding to heat and cold-related illnesses
    • Contacting emergency services effectively
    • Supporting casualties until help arrives

Training is delivered using realistic scenarios that reflect the environments volunteers are most likely to encounter.

    Supporting Church and Faith Communities

Churches and faith organisations often provide far more than places of worship. They host community cafés, food banks, youth activities, coffee mornings, support groups, outreach projects, and social events for people of all ages.

Volunteers in these settings regularly interact with vulnerable individuals, older adults, children, and members of the public. Community First Aid Training equips church wardens, pastoral teams, youth leaders, event organisers, and congregation volunteers with the skills and confidence to respond when someone requires urgent assistance.

By investing in first aid training, faith organisations help create safer and more welcoming environments for everyone they serve.

Supporting Gardening Clubs and Community Garden Projects

Across towns and villages, gardening clubs and community green space projects are transforming neglected land into thriving community gardens. These initiatives bring people together, improve wellbeing, encourage environmental stewardship, and create opportunities for learning and social connection.

Many volunteers involved in gardening and conservation projects work outdoors using tools and equipment, often alongside people of varying ages and physical abilities. Common incidents can include:

    • Cuts and lacerations
    • Trips, slips and falls
    • Strains and sprains
    • Heat exhaustion and dehydration
    • Insect stings and allergic reactions
    • Medical emergencies involving volunteers or visitors

Community First Aid Training helps gardening groups and volunteers feel prepared to deal with these situations safely and effectively, ensuring community spaces remain welcoming and resilient.

    Building Confidence in Volunteers

One of the biggest concerns volunteers express is not knowing what to do in an emergency. Community First Aid Training focuses on building practical confidence through hands-on learning and realistic scenarios.

    Participants learn how to:

    • Stay calm under pressure
    • Assess risk and maintain safety
    • Prioritise casualty care
    • Work alongside emergency services
    • Support members and visitors with confidence

These are skills that extend beyond club activities and community projects, benefiting families, workplaces, and local communities.

Creating Stronger, Safer Communities, Be Prepared

When organisations invest in first aid training, they demonstrate a commitment to the wellbeing of their members and volunteers. Parents, participants, supporters, and visitors gain reassurance knowing that trained individuals are available should an emergency arise.

    The benefits include:

    • Increased volunteer confidence
    • Improved participant safety
    • Enhanced community resilience
    • Better preparedness for emergencies
    • Stronger safeguarding culture
    • Greater inclusion and accessibility
    • Improved reputation and trust within the community
