Lowland Expedition Leadership Training (LEL)
Attend this training to develop the skills needed to plan and organise day and overnight camping expeditions in lowland terrain.
After completing the training course, delegates may consolidate their skills and log their leadership experience before attending the final assessment at a future time.
WHAT
The course is made up of 8 mandatory units:
- Developing outdoor leadership skills
- Plan a walk for a group in lowland countryside
- Prepare for a walk in lowland countryside
- Lead sessions that impart the knowledge and skills required to walk in lowland countryside
- Lead a walk in lowland countryside
- Navigation for the walk leader
- Management of unaccompanied groups in the countryside
- Campcraft for the expedition Leader
The training element of this qualifcation requires 6 days, Remote First Aid supports Adult Educators by delivering this as a split programme consisting of three two-day one night blocks. All times are set at 0900 on day one through to 1500 day two.
There is time between each of the course dates to consolidate skills learnt in preparation for the next block of training.
After completing your Lowland Expedition Leader training phase, you will need to book your assessment. The assessment phase is undertaken once you have completed your own led walks and overnight camps. This allows you to present yourself for assessment. Assessment dates will be agreed between you and our training team. Assessment is a three-day two night demonstraion of expedition leadership. Times are from 1800 day one to 1300 day three. Outcome will be Pass or Refer.
WHO
The Level 3 Qualification in Lowland Expedition Leadership provides skills and experience for Adult Educators wanting to lead expedition groups and train participants to undertake their own self-sufficient expeditions.
This award is the minimum qualification required by many local authorities and operating authorities of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme to train and lead groups in the expedition section of the Bronze and Silver Awards (lowland areas).
