21 July 2026 by Pete Cook

Agriculture remains one of the most dangerous industries in the UK, and new figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) highlight a stark reality: children and older workers continue to face disproportionate risks on Britain’s farms. With fatal injury rates five times higher than construction and 21 times higher than the all‑industry average, the need for robust, practical safety training has never been more urgent.

Remote First Aid is proud to stand alongside The HSE, farmers, agricultural businesses, and rural communities by delivering Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) for Farmers a tailored, accessible, and industry‑aligned course designed to save lives in the moments that matter most.

🚜 Why First Aid Training Matters More Than Ever in Agriculture

Recent HSE data shows that 29 people lost their lives in agriculture, forestry, and fishing in 2025/26, including three children. Over the past five years, nine children have died on farms—representing 6% of all work‑related fatalities in the sector. Older farmers are also at heightened risk, with over‑65s accounting for half of all worker fatalities last year.

The leading causes of death remain tragically familiar:

    • Moving or overturning vehicles
    • Falls from height
    • Animals and livestock handling
    • Machinery incidents
    • Falling objects

These risks are not abstract—they are daily realities for farmers across Wales and the UK. As HSE emphasises, many of these incidents are preventable with the right knowledge, behaviours, and safety culture.

🟩 Remote First Aid’s Commitment to Rural Safety

Remote First Aid has long supported the agricultural sector with training designed specifically for remote, rural, and high‑risk environments. Our EFAW for Farmers course goes beyond standard first aid by addressing the unique challenges of farm work:

    • Responding to machinery‑related injuries
    • Managing crush injuries and severe bleeding
    • Safe casualty handling in remote locations
    • First aid considerations around livestock
    • Incident management when emergency services may be delayed
    • Practical, scenario‑based training tailored to real farm hazards

This is first aid built for farmers—practical, relevant, and grounded in real‑world agricultural risk.

🌱 Supporting a Culture Shift in Farm Safety

HSE has called for a significant cultural change across the farming industry—one that begins on every farm and with every farmer.

Remote First Aid is committed to being part of that change.

By equipping farmers, contractors, and rural workers with the skills to respond confidently to emergencies, we help strengthen the safety culture that HSE and Britain’s Farm Safety Partnerships are working to build. Remote first Aid delivers a range of Health & Safety Training including the Health and Safety in the Workplace (RQF) – Level 4 – Remote First Aid course. This Level 4 Health & Safety Qualification strengthens the advanced competence required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, giving leaders the confidence and capability to manage risk effectively.

    Our training empowers farmers to:

    • Protect their families, including children living on or visiting the farm
    • Support older workers who may face increased physical risks
    • Reduce the severity of injuries when accidents occur
    • Build safer working practices through awareness and preparedness

🧭 Why Choose Remote First Aid?

    • Nationally recognised qualifications
    • Experienced trainers with agricultural expertise
    • Flexible delivery across Wales and the UK
