!6 hour outdoor first aid training – supporting trail leaders and coaches!

The Wye Valley has become one of the UK’s most exciting MTB coaching landscapes — a mix of steep woodland singletrack, fast‑flowing valley descents, and technical off‑piste lines that demand confidence, competence, and credible safety leadership. For mountain bike coaches working across Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the wider borderlands, the Blended Outdoor First Aid (Band 3) delivered by Remote First Aid UK offers the gold‑standard qualification that aligns perfectly with the realities of modern trail coaching.

Why MTB Coaches Need Outdoor First Aid Band 3

Mountain biking is a dynamic, high‑energy sport where incidents can escalate quickly. Whether you’re coaching youth riders, guiding adult groups, or delivering technical progression sessions, you’re often operating in remote or austere environments where emergency services may be delayed or access is limited. This course provides MTB coaches with the real‑world, trail‑specific skills needed to manage incidents confidently until help arrives.

Aligned with the 2025 RCUK First Aid Guidelines, the qualification integrates Remote Basic Life Support and practical skills essential for anyone coaching in woodland, valley, or upland terrain. It’s designed for instructors who need more than classroom theory — it’s built for coaches who spend their working lives on dirt.

Course Structure: Built for Busy Outdoor Professionals

    Blended Learning for Maximum Flexibility

The course begins with eight hours of interactive online learning, accessible on any device and designed specifically for outdoor professionals. MTB coaches can complete this at their own pace, making it ideal for those balancing coaching sessions, travel, and personal riding time.

    One-Day Practical, Hands‑On Training

The face‑to‑face component is delivered by nationally recognised Outdoor First Aid instructors and focuses on scenario‑rich, trail‑realistic training. Expect to work through incidents that mirror what MTB coaches actually face:

    • Assessing scene dangers on remote trails
    • Managing head injuries, trauma and catastrophic bleeding
    • Responding to fractures, dislocations and high‑impact crashes
    • Handling choking, drowning, seizures and cardiac events
    • Managing hypothermia, heat illness and asthma
    • Communicating effectively with emergency services
    • Providing accurate location details to the EMS
    • Using specific first aid equipment such as group shelters

This is not generic first aid — it’s purpose‑built for outdoor leaders, including MTB coaches who need to make fast, informed decisions in unpredictable environments.

    Qualifications Earned

Successful learners gain two nationally recognised qualifications:

    • Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate
    • 16‑hour Outdoor First Aid Certificate

Both are valid for three years, giving MTB coaches long‑term compliance and confidence.

Why Wye Valley Coaches Choose Remote First Aid UK

The Wye Valley trail scene is thriving — from coaching hubs in Chepstow and Monmouth to guided sessions across Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat and the wider borderlands. Coaches choose Remote First Aid UK because:

    • Training is delivered from the Wye Valley Outdoor Education Centre, right in the heart of the trail network.
    • Courses are aligned with Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Band 3 expectations.
    • Instructors understand the realities of coaching on steep, technical terrain.
    • The learning environment is professional, supportive and deeply rooted in outdoor culture.

This is the authentic Outdoor First Aid course trusted by instructors across Wales, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gwent and the UK.
