Pre-requisites to join these programmes?
- Must be aged 18 + on the first day of training
- Have a willingness to be outdoors for extended times
- Have a good level of personal fitness for days that will exceed more than 6 hours of walking each day, with packs on
- Be able to provide evidence of English & Maths at Level 2 or equivalent standards.

Typical Programmes
Lowland Day-Walk Leader Programme
- Training is completed over 6 days, with learners then consolidating their training and portfolio of evidence, returning for a full 7-hour day of assessment and observation of day-walk leadership. The outcome is Pass or Refer.
The training is delivered as three blocks of two days, followed by learners consolidating their portfolio, which includes completing at least three independent day walks each lasting 5 hours or more on suitable terrain. They then book an return to complete their assessed day walk.
Lowland Expedition Leader Programme
- Training is completed over 6 days, including overnight camps, after which learners then consolidate their training and portfolio of evidence, returning for their three-day assessment that includes demonstration of leading a three-day, two-night expedition. The outcome is Pass or Refer.
The training is delivered over two blocks of three days (0900 start day one, 1500 finish day three), which includes one overnight camp and another consisting of a three-day, two-night expedition at suitable recognised camp locations. Learners then leave and complete their portfolio of evidence and complete a further three self-guided overnight expeditions, with one being at least two nights in duration.
