RFU First Aid Training Update
About This Change
The RFU no longer delivers first aid training courses directly. Instead, rugby clubs and schools are supported through a network of First Aid Training Providers (FATPs) listed on the official RFU First Aid Training Map. Remote First Aid is one of these approved providers. Consequently, we offer Rugby First Aid courses that meet the RFU’s minimum requirements for rugby clubs. Our courses provide a nationally recognised Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification with added rugby-specific content, provided by the RFU as a recognised provider, so first aiders are fully prepared for pitch-side emergencies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why has the RFU stopped delivering first aid training?
A: The RFU has shifted focus to player welfare guidance and standards. Therefore, first aid training is now delivered by independent FATPs who meet RFU requirements.
Q: Who provides first aid training now?
A: Approved FATPs listed on the RFU First Aid Training Map deliver Level 3 EFAW and rugby pitch side first aid courses.
Q: Is Remote First Aid Training recognised by the RFU?
A: Yes. Remote First Aid’s Training is officially listed on the RFU First Aid Training Map and delivers courses that meet RFU minimum standards for rugby clubs while aligning with HSE regulations.
Q: Is my qualification still valid?
A: Yes. A Level 3 EFAW certificate remains valid for 3 years. Moreover, you can upload your certificate directly to your RFU GMS profile. Annual refreshers are recommended via RFU HEADCASE or FARU CPD online modules.
Q: Do courses still cover rugby-specific injuries?
A: Absolutely. Our rugby pitch side first aid courses cover concussion management, suspected spinal injuries, fractures, and other pitch-side emergencies and the RFU supports our delivery by providing training content. As a result, first aiders gain the confidence and skills to respond effectively.
Q: Can clubs book directly with Remote First Aid Training?
A: Yes. Clubs, schools, and organisations can book face-to-face or blended Rugby First Aid courses directly. However, early booking is advised, particularly during prior to the busy rugby season.
