How Remote First Aid Supports UK Athletics Category A, B & C First Aid Training Across the UK

Remote First Aid is a trusted national provider of sports‑specific first aid training, supporting clubs, coaches, leaders and volunteers across the UK to meet UK Athletics Category A, B and C requirements. With a long‑established reputation for delivering compliant, scenario‑based and regulation‑aligned training, Remote First Aid ensures every athletics environment — from grassroots clubs to elite performance settings — has the right level of first aid competence in place.

Our programmes are built around GEIS3 (Guidance for Employers Industry Standard 3, Selecting a Training Provider), the First Aid at Work Regulations 1981 and 1982, and the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, giving organisations confidence that their training meets the expectations of national governing bodies, insurers and workplace regulators.

Supporting UK Athletics Category A: Basic First Aid

Category A applies to low‑risk athletics settings where activities are supervised, hazards are minimal, and Emergency Medical Services can be reached quickly. Remote First Aid provides clear, accessible and practical Basic First Aid training that covers:

    • Primary survey and safe approach
    • CPR and AED use
    • Bleeding control and minor injuries
    • Managing collapses, fainting and common sports‑related incidents

This level is ideal for Run Leaders, volunteers, junior coaches and club assistants who need a solid foundation in first aid without the complexity of higher‑risk environments.

Supporting UK Athletics Category B: First Aid for Environments Without Immediate Medical Cover

Category B is designed for athletic activities where no medical team is present, and EMS response may take 10–30 minutes. Remote First Aid delivers robust, scenario‑driven training that prepares coaches and volunteers to manage incidents confidently during this critical window.

    Our Category B‑aligned training includes:

    • Enhanced CPR and AED skills
    • Managing sudden cardiac arrest in sport
    • Fractures, sprains and musculoskeletal injuries
    • Heat illness, asthma, anaphylaxis and collapse
    • Incident management when working alone or in remote areas

Sudden cardiac arrest in sport is rare but catastrophic, with around 1 in 217,000 athletes experiencing a sports‑related sudden death each year (Resuscitation Council UK). Category B training ensures coaches can respond effectively until professional help arrives.

Supporting UK Athletics Category C: Advanced First Aid for Higher‑Risk or Remote Athletics Activities

Category C applies to higher‑risk, remote or endurance‑based environments, including trail running, fell running, ultra‑events and training sessions where EMS access may be delayed. Remote First Aid specialises in remote and outdoor first aid, making us uniquely positioned to support Category C requirements.

    Training includes:

    • Extended care and prolonged casualty management
    • Hypothermia, hyperthermia and environmental emergencies
    • Trauma management and major bleeding
    • Navigation of remote‑area emergency response
    • Coordinating evacuation and communicating with emergency services

This level is essential for coaches, event organisers and leaders responsible for athletes’ training or competing in remote or challenging terrain.

Fully Compliant with GEIS3 and UK Regulatory Standards

Remote First Aid ensures all training aligns with:

    • Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 & 1982
    • Resuscitation Council UK 2025 Guidelines
    • UK Athletics First Aid Framework
    • Insurance and risk‑assessment requirements for sports clubs

Our trainers are experienced, accredited and active in both sports and pre‑hospital care, ensuring every course is realistic, relevant and compliant.
